Our Monthly roundup of the chatter in the Dings. Apologies as I’ve been busy but here’s a roundup from June – volunteering, goodbye to the deli and the animal rescue centre, exercise classes, photo club, cosmos and lots of other things happening as ever.
Sad Goodbye to the dings Deli 🙁
Thanks for all the wonderful treats and coffees Liz – hoping you are having a well deserved rest from all your hard work and we are really sorry to lose the Deli xx

Volunteering from Stantec – from Nola
A big thanks to a team from Stantec who chose The Dings for their volunteering afternoon. It was that super hot day last week but they still managed to paint the Safe Ouse, clear the lane near the ball court, tidy the space where the pizza oven used to be, strim the stinging nettles and pick a lot of litter. Some before and after photos ….

The crowdfunder is to raise money to run a series of Photo Clubs during the school holidays. If enough is raised there will be a fully funded one held for Dings youth. Tickets are from £2. The prizes are good

QIGONG MOVEMENT CLASS – Easton Community Centre – Wednesdays 09.30-10.20am
Many people are uncertain how to pronounce Qigong (it’s ‘Chee Gung’ ), but it really doesn’t matter how you say it, the key is in how you practice it. With ease, intention and care for your body.
This ancient standing movement practice is so simple to learn and yet so beneficial to our minds and body on many levels. Stress reduction, improved circulation and joint mobility, muscle strengthening and postural improvements are just a few.

£8 cash price (£4 first class)
I hope to practice with you soon.

From The Dings to The Cosmos! This is the Whirlpool Galaxy, which is 25 million light-years from Earth, but close to a dwarf galaxy called NGC 5195. The gravitational force of the two has made a “tidal bridge” of stars that connects them. The Whirlpool was the first galaxy to have been seen as a spiral shape, back in 1845.
As ever, this photo was taken from my back garden in The Dings.

Development News
Fond Farewaell to Bristol Animal Rescue Centre – from Steph
Bristol Animal Rescue Centre has launched a new fundraising appeal ahead of a move from their historic home.
The Calm Amongst the Chaos appeal comes as work continues on a number of new buildings around Bristol ARC on Albert Road in St Philip’s Marsh.
Construction work means that the environment has become “increasingly stressful for the animals in our care and for the people supporting them every day” according to the team.

Bristol Temple Quarter plans: Huge 10,000-home ‘city suburb’ proposed – from Irene
The ‘Masterplan’ for the St Philips region of the city, near Temple Meads train station, could see up to 10,000 properties built across an expansive area stretching from Temple Way to Avonmeads Retail Park, alongside zones designated for ‘intensified industrial’, and ‘innovation and knowledge’ uses. St Philips Marsh Area engagement – from Sol
St Philip’s Marsh – engagement on emerging ideas for change – open until 31st July.
We’re seeking feedback on ideas for how St Philip’s Marsh could change in the future.
Keep reading to find out more about these ideas and have your say.
The ideas build on the work previously presented and consulted on in 2023. We’ll use your feedback to help us develop a single option for change, which we will consult the public on later this year. Our aim is that the preferred masterplan approach would then be set out within a supplementary planning document (SPD).
Early ideas for change in St Philip’s Marsh and a survey to give your thoughts can be found on this page.
