August’23 roundup of the Dings

Our Monthly roundup of the chatter in the Dings.

Fun Day Back on, vegfest coming up, Jumpfit, goodbye to invisible circus and lots more going on.

The Dings Fun Day

I’m really happy to announce that we have a new date for the Dings Fun Day! It will be on Saturday 2nd September! A mixture of free activities and some charging fees to make money to run the Youth Club which currently has no funding.

We have a raffle again this year with lots of great prizes donated by our lovely local businesses. Tickets are £1 a strip and will be drawn at 4.00 pm next Saturday. All proceeds will be going towards keeping the Youth Club running as our funding has now finished.

Bristol VegFest on Pennywell Lane

Bristol Vegan Fayre first started in 2003, making this year it’s 20th birthday celebration. The event is completely free to attend, so be sure to come down to Document in Bristol on 2nd & 3rd September for good vibes, great food, comedy, music and much more!

Community Gardening

The first Sunday of every month we do comunity gardening – all welcome. Big thanks to Stef for helping clear out the “D” bed today .. and Ian Batten for watching us and supplying the refreshments. Check out stefs etsy page to see what lovely autonomata wooden toys he makes https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PenlanCrafts

Jump Studio Birthday Celebrations

Come and celebrate our birthday on September 10th!

Also … Unlock the power of AUM at our sound bath series, starting on 1 September at Jump Studios, Bristol.

With Tibetan bowls, gongs, chimes, and other ancient instruments, we’ll guide you find a deeper connection to yourself. Rooted in wonder, love, and understanding, it’s a journey to the heart of your being.

Lee Pullen’s amazing night sky pictures (and Balloons from the Fiesta)

The balloons popping over the dings

From The Dings to the Universe! This is The Butterfly Nebula, which is about 4000 light-years from Earth. The photo spans 80 light-years, but the area it occupies in the sky is only twice the size of your thumbnail held out at arm’s length. As ever, I took this photo from my back garden in The Dings using a telescope and special astronomical camera 🔭

Beyond Submergence at Propyard is worth a visit. We went there today. Only a ~10-minute walk from The Dings.

Invisible Circus call out

Dear Daredevils and divas, acrobats and clowns

You are cordially invited to join us to participate in our upcoming show Welcome to the Future, our last hurrah at our decade-long home of Unit 15.

We are aiming to reunite and celebrate in style, doing what we know and love best, that’s right! You guessed it… Showtime!

We’ll be using the whole site indoors and outdoors, staging a mix of cabaret, spectacle, and theatrical installations. The show is responding to the current trend of gentrification reaching its inevitable conclusion in the city, hence our beloved creation space closing. Despite this poignant and mildly depressing overtone, we are all about celebrating unity and community, something our beloved Unit has nurtured across its lifespan.

This is a fun-raiser rather than a fundraiser! To that end, we are not aiming to make money from the event itself and will be looking to cover pre-production costs and expenses for those coming from further afield.

When?

Dress rehearsal- Weds 27th Sept
Show dates- Thursday 28th/ Fri 29th/ Sat 30th Sept and Sunday 1st October

We would love you to be involved…

Tell us if you would like to be part of the event in whatever capacity, if you’re available for all dates or only some, either of which can be accommodated.

Many thanks for your love and support and we hope to see you for some fun and frolics in September.

The Invisible Circus Team xx
